My Story

After a failed marriage of 26 years, 5 children and a two year custody battle; I knew becoming a family lawyer was my dream.

On the Surface

Overcoming Trauma and Adversity

Pursuing Education Amidst Challenges

Becoming a Bulldozer in the Courtroom

I have 5 amazing children; I have a Master’s Degree in Nursing and a Master’s Degree in Business; I am the co-owner of a very successful nursing triage company that provides service in over 20 different states; and I am an attorney and I own my own law firm. That reads pretty picture perfect but, like many American families, my life has had its share of struggles that are not visible on the surface. In order to understand how I got “here,” you have to know a bit about my journey and what led me to the place I am now.

At the tender age of 4 was the first time I recall being sexually molested by my step-father. At the age of 15, I decided being homeless was an acceptable alternative to remaining in a sexually abusive family setting. Subsequently, I married early and had a child. Looking into the face of my baby girl, I knew I had to do something to give her a better life than I had as a child. This lightbulb moment led to a conscious decision to change my life forever. I enrolled in college and began to pursue a degree in nursing. In addition to being married and being a mom, I worked 2-3 jobs to put myself through nursing school. It was hard, but my little girl was worth it.
Life seemed pretty “normal” (if there is such a thing) for a while. I continued to pursue higher education, additional degrees, open a business, and to have more children. Just when I thought I had it all together: I found my 26 year marriage on the rocks. After the divorce, I was faced with a custody battle for my minor children and the thought of losing them terrified me. I realized that all of my work, all of my degrees, all of my business acumen, and all of my years as a mother could not guarantee I would get primary custody. You guessed it! That is when I enrolled in law school. I needed to know the law in order to fight for my children effectively. Winning my 2 year custody battle was the culmination of all of my efforts, all of my hard work, all of my degrees, and all of the love I have for my children coming together to allow me to be victorious!

During my own custody battle, the judge referred to me as a bulldozer and I wear that title with pride. Sometimes you have to destroy all of the negatives in your life in order to build a better life. A life that you deserve. I am ready to take on the next chapter of my life as an attorney that prefers to practice in Family Law. I am a survivor. I am a fighter. If you will allow me to, I will fight for you just as I have fought for myself and my own family throughout my entire life. I am now divorced from my second husband and thankful that this time there will be no children in the middle.
